Assessing an Intervention Activity

Assessing an Intervention Activity

Creating professional presentations is an integral part of OD. This assignment was designed to give students practice developing presentation skills in a low-risk environment.

The objective of an intervention is to help or to improve the effectiveness of organizations, groups, teams, and individuals. Solving problems, improving relationships, clarifying roles or goals, and building skills are all worthy and common objectives of interventions (Anderson, 2016). Unfortunately, not all intervention activities are useful! In some cases, intervention activities have no scientific-evidence and can potentially do more harm than good. Since intervention effectiveness is crucial to the work OD practitioners do, this assignment will give you the opportunity to assess the credibility and potential effectiveness of an intervention activity of your choice.

Your presentation must include the following (Please read CAREFULLY):

  1. Overview of intervention activity
    1. History (Who created/popularized the intervention? etc.)
    2. Purpose of the intervention (What was it designed to accomplish?)
    3. Target element(s): Individual, Team/group, or Organization?
  2. Evidence behind the intervention
    1. Highlight at least 3 sources of evidence
  3. Analysis of findings:
    1. Pros/cons of intervention based on the evidence
    2. What is your recommendation (should this intervention of used)?
  4. References at the bottom of each slide.

Presentation logistics: Presentations will be recorded in the form of voice over (you do not need to be on video), uploaded to YouTube, and then posted on Blackboard for discussion. Presentations should be 10-15 mins in duration.

Presenters should:

  • Create a PowerPoint presentation with voiceover
  • Be mindful of time
  • Be well practiced
  • Refrain from using fillers (e.g., um, like, you know)
  • Speak clearly and at an appropriate pace
  • Engage the audience through your tone and visual presentation
