Response Paper

Your Response Paper assignment this week is to write an annotated bibliography compiling works cited entries and brief summaries of several sources related to your working thesis idea in some way. This assignment is connected to your eventual research paper due in week 7.

Remember that your eventual Research Paper due in week 7 must make an argumentative claim about one or two (no more than three) of the works we have read in the class using one of the literary theories to which you were introduced.

So, this week’s response paper is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents that are relevant to your topic and might be used to help write your eventual paper for week 7. Each citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150-200 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph—this is known as the annotation. The purpose of each annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the source cited.

Develop an Annotated Bibliography using at least THREE relevant secondary sources from the GMC Library.

Remember that you are writing a paper on literature, so while you may find a historical document important to your research if you are performing a Historical Analysis, your sources should generally come from the Literary Resource Center in the GMC Library.

Your finished Response Paper should include 3-5 source entries, with annotation paragraphs for each source (for visual reference, review the example entry/annotation in this week’s Online Learning Resources section). Annotations include the following elements:

Summary/Analysis: mention the article’s main ideas and analyze its general argument.

Evaluation: evaluation of the article’s effectiveness, with a brief explanation of how source is relevant or useful to your research paper topic idea.

For the citation for each source, carefully follow the MLA format provided by the Purdue Owl.

As with all your submissions, this is a formal assignment that should be submitted using MLA format for style, spacing, heading, pagination, etc. Your final response should be at least 500 words.
