Identify an article published in the New York Times’ Science section (or in a popular, reputable magazine) that is reporting research findings from a study in the social or behavioral sciences, within the last year. Then find the scholarly journal article to which that article was referring. Read the journal article. Discuss the differences in structure, approach, writing style, and audience that both pieces covered. How do they overlap with one another? How do they differ? When was the study original conducted and published in a journal? Finally, identify the target lay audience for this research and imagine that you have been tasked with relaying this information to that target lay audience. Discuss how the information, presentation, writing style, approach, and format (please do not use a newspaper or magazine as your format of choice) could be altered to appeal to that audience and properly relay the findings of the study at hand. Provide support for your changes using what you have learned in Weeks 12 and 13.
Double-spaced. MUST BE IN APA 7 FORMAT with running head. MUST USE PROPER ENGLISH GRAMMAR AND USAGE. I WILL SEND THE ARTICLE IN THE ATTACHMENTS, AS WELL AS THE NY TIMES ARTICLE: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/28/health/psychology-conspiracy-theories.html?searchResultPosition=2
For altered format, please discuss the implications of using social media as a platform to disseminate scientific research findings. Please find plenty of sources to back up these choices and assertions. In addition, discuss and center this around what both Jhangiani and Blackstone discuss about dissemination of research in different formats and in different media.
In the section discussing the structure and approach of the scholarly article, please discuss experimental design, reliability, validity, whether the sample chosen is representative of the population as a whole (race, gender, socioeconomic class), the nature of the research (causal/experimental, correlational/nonexperimental, between-groups or within-groups, whether it ws quasi-experimental), how qualitative approaches could have been incorporated (interviewing, participatory action research, grounded theory), as well as the quality, reliability, and validity of the psychometrics used in the study (survey/self-report questionnaires, its limitations in dissemination, whether random sampling was used in recruiting a representative pool of participants). Then, the bulk of the paper will discuss whether the NYT article successfully portrayed the complexity of the research, with accuracy, rigor, etc.
MUST INCORPORATE COURSE TEXTBOOK, WHICH I WILL SEND IN ATTACHMENTS. Course textbook is Jhangiani, Chang, Creighton, & Cuttler 2019; the other is Blackstone, 2012. Do not worry about including these 2 in the final bibliography. I will include them myself. I want you to cite scholarly articles. I am an A+ student, and am relying on you for excellent quality and scholarly rigor.
The idea of the paper is really to discuss how psychological research is disseminated; including the merits of various forms of dissemination. The key is to center the paper around what is discussed in the course textbook, as part of the purpose of these papers is to evaluate the student’s command of the text.
A detailed discussion of all of the above is necessary.
