Sustainability and society

Sustainability is kind of like a physics law that states – “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Or a common economic reality – “We frequently spent two dollars to save a dollar.” There is always a cost and sometimes, an unintended result when we try to be more Sustainable. As an example, a great idea like DDT turned out to be an environmental disaster. However, with some care can have a positive result and save money.

-For this project look around, are there things you do or see daily that could be done in a more sustainable way?

– Find one thing that could be done in a more sustainable way. This may be as simple as asking why people drive to Star Bucks and pay $6 for a cup of coffee, rather than make one at home for $0.43. Other benefits of doing so would be saving fuel and extending the life of their vehicle. Another may be asking why people drive an F350 truck when a Honda Hybrid car would provide adequate transportation 98% of the time while saving fuel and the environment.

-Once you choose your topic, be sure to use the Three Pillars of Sustainability( economic viability, environmental protection, and social equity.) to weigh the pros and cons of your idea/topic. You will need to relate the savings to some sort of benefit to the environment and supply a weblink related to that benefit as well as including a quote from that link in your report. The project will be graded using the attached Rubric. Confirm with me before choosing the topic. Make sure the articles are from valid educational websites.
