Questions and Answers from Interview 1

  1. Q- Can you give some specific examples of how you needed to persuade someone or a group involved on a project or idea? Please give specific times when you influenced others – the situation, what you did to persuade, and the outcome.
  • It is essential that my followers trust and have faith in me and my ideas. I would explain my concept clearly, let them know what we would gain from it, and how this would make a good impact on the company. For example, when my followers have questions or different voices, I would listen and try to understand them instead of just giving orders, because I would rather inspire them. When I first wanted to create an APP for customer to try on our product, my employees had doubts, because in a jewelry industry, designs and quality are important factors, however, it is hard to estimate it on an APP. Therefore, I explained my whole concept and why I wanted an APP. One of the biggest reasons was that media plays an important role in our daily lives. We have to be fast enough to catch up and stay updated. My followers gained a lot of confidence and they believed in this project.

  • I think that persuasive people are easier to influence their followers. I always stay positive and give support to my followers. It is essential that I understand what they need and want. Also, commitment is a key to influence others. You need to let your followers know you can lead them to success, and focus on the same goals.

  • I have developed a lot of skills that help me to persuade my employees. Communication, listening, negotiation. Most importantly, I tend to have good emotional intelligence and high confidence. If you don’t believe you will succeed, how do you convince others. I always stay motivated and believe in my own ideas.

  • Confidence and good communication skill. It is important that you deliver you points of view across effectively to your employees, and it is key that my followers and I are on the same page.

  • I would say I am a very good listener. This is an important characteristic in leadership. I am a good communicator, it allows my followers to share their thoughts and it helps to develop better understanding through conversations.

  • My followers need to feel confident about deciding to move in a certain direction, and they need to see examples of others that have succeeded on that direction. When I want to persuade my followers, I always show them cases that are successful and have gained knowledge through that path. For innovative ideas, they might feel risky, but it is important that my followers know that they will not lose their jobs if anything, so that they can trust me and feel relieved and be more motivated. Moreover, I’d like to use some motive keywords in my persuasive speech to catch their attention.

  • It is key that a leader discover their employees’ values, since everyone has different life experiences. Therefore, I always discuss with my followers and openly share thoughts with each other. To work under a harmonious environment will help employee’s work performance, so it is easier for me to influence them. To get to know their thoughts and listen to their voices are essential.
  1. Q- What skills have you developed that help you to persuade your employees?
  • I have gained more self-confidence through persuasive speech, and I think the more I do this the more confident I become. Therefore, confidence really helps me to persuade my followers. Also, I think logically and reasoning, and it is useful in persuading employees. Being able to think logically is crucial in persuading others. Have a good logic will provide a better picture and a clear direction for my followers.

  • To present effective arguments and prompt followers to act is a valuable asset in a workplace. Shows passion is also one of the most important attributes for someone to have to be an influencer. The followers need to see what benefit or values that you can bring to them. I also think that an influencer should always respect other people’s idea and stand in their shoes to understand why they think what they think.

  • I would practice my approach with my partner, and their feedbacks can give me ideas or tell me what I am lacking.

  • I would still try to talk to that person and find out what is on his mind. Let the employee knows that I am willing to solve the problem together. Communication is really important especially when you persuade others. I would plan out the conversation first and offer a solution when I am unable to communicate with one of my employees. Moreover, I would show empathy but also be direct to the point. It is easier to communicate with others if you allow the employee to ask questions, but try to remember that don’t get mad or offended during the process.

  • I honestly think that being your true self is important when you communicate with my superiors. Always get to the point and demonstrate my innovation and initiative. Also, focus on impact and tell them what they can expect for the result, and what benefit I can eventually bring to the company.
