Describe the issue, including relevant background information.
Explain clearly the nature of the issue that is subject to debate and that you are addressing. (You may find it useful to integrate outside information to explain the situation and the debate about it.)
Recommend an appropriate response to or course of action related to the issue (this is your thesis). (Again, your thesis may argue for or against a position or proposal that others have already taken or made in the debate.)
Offer reasons why your claim is reasonable, feasible, and preferable. Focus on the positive outcomes if this action is taken.
Provide appropriate and sufficient evidence—properly cited and integrated—to support your recommendation.
Address counter arguments or possible objections to your proposal.
Reiterate your claim and your strongest reason for it.

Because this essay will be stronger if it isn’t written just from what you know about the subject, the paper requires you to investigate the issue and include other authors’ ideas and/or words to help you explain the issue, give background information or data about it, or to support your claim. You will need to include information from at least five credible and relevant outside sources (probably no Wiki or HowTo sites) and properly cite these sources. That means including internal citations and a Works Cited page formatted according to 2016 MLA citation style. These may or may not be the same sources on your annotated bibliography. Regardless, DO NOT include the annotations on your Works Cited page for this essay.

Goals:

The goals of this research project are to practice gathering, assessing, and integrating information; defining and defending a recommendation with appropriate support from other authors; giving those authors proper credit for their ideas and/or words with internal citations; developing an argument over several coherent paragraphs and pages; demonstrating use of a tone and vocabulary appropriate for your target audience; and demonstrating proficiency with the rules of standard written English.
