Synthesis & Argumentation Paper

Please consider one of the texts from our Sustainability reader which we have reviewed thus far,including Leopold’s “Thinking Like a Mountain,” Suzuki’s “The Sacred Balance: RediscoveringOur Place in Nature,” and Al Gore’s “Climate of Denial.” You may certainly read ahead andselect a text which we have yet to discuss in class as well. Please feel free to browse through ouranthology and find one or a few relevant and related texts that really stand out to you.Your task is to provide a thoughtful synthesis of the author’s thesis and formulate a thoroughargumentation that supports and/or challenges the text. Draw upon what we have learned thus farfrom our practice of writing narratives and rhetorical analyses. What is the central idea and whyis it important to a larger conversation of exploring nature? Do you agree or disagree with theauthor’s claims? Does a particular notion inspire you in any way and, if so, what can be done tocontribute to this message? Are there new ideas you can touch upon to evolve this text’s thoughtparadigm? Is it necessary to revisit this text with a modern perspective or is it relevant to life inour contemporary communities? Explore your authentic, personal response(s) and write aboutwhat you are genuinely passionate—what interests you the most?You may decide to respond to more than one text. In this case, please include the aforementionedsynthesis for each of the respective works. How are the texts connected? Does one extend thethesis of another? Does it provide a natural counterpoint?
