How do anthropologists answer the question: Why do people get married?

Literature and references requirements
-Use at least 5 anthropological academic sources in your paper. Examples of academic sources: – anthropology books: including ethnographies, edited volumes, chapters in books -anthropology journal articles include peer reviewed articles found in anthropology journals.
-These examples should include a mix of theory (books and articles that help us to understand what is happening) AND ethnography (examples given of what people are doing in particular cultures that illustrate what is happening).
You can also use non academic sources like blog posts and news articles etc. But these have to be in addition to your 5 academic sources. IE they CANNOT be used as a main literature source in your essay.

-have a references section at the end where you cite all the journal articles and books you use.

-This is a formal paper, write in the third person, ex : this paper argues. Don’t use slang words and abbreviations.

-use at least the minimum number of academic sources asked for – in this case at least 5 -make sure the 5 are actually academic sources (see description above) -use quotation marks correctly.

– cite any ideas or quotes that are not yours. (LAST NAME, DATE, PAGE NUMBER).

-use quotations to support and illustrate what you are saying/ claiming. -Even better – if you go on to discuss in your own words why you think what the author of the article is saying is important, or if you disagree with them, why you might disagree with their statement. You don’t always have to agree. -you can paraphrase, and don’t have to always quote verbatim. Sometimes putting the author’s ideas into your own words is very useful. BUT DON’T FORGET TO CITE/ GIVE REFERENCES.

-Have a well organized paper with a title, introduction, subheadings, conclusion and references section.

what not to do
-do not just insert a quote into your paper. It should be part of the discussion and moving your argument along. Very often students just insert a quote quite randomly in order to meet the required 5 texts used – this doesn’t meet the requirement. You need to demonstrate that you have read the article / chapter, and it needs to be relevant to your discussion etc.
