Guidelines for Presentation/Paper

Shadowing/Internship Paper

2020. This paper will be a minimum of 10 pages, double spaced and typed with a minimum of three (3) approved professional references – at least two (2) of these must be Peer Reviewed articles from 2015-2020.
      1. The paper should include a thorough description of the experience including but not limited to
         1. The setting of the experience
         2. The “typical” client base of the practice

• The common ailments and treatments at the practice

1. Your opinion on the experience
   1. Enjoyable
   2. Things you liked, things you did not like
   3. What you learned
   4. Did this have an impact, either positive or negative on pursuing this area as a career
2. The paper should incorporate an interview with a health care provider at the clinical site. Potential questions to be answered may include, but are limited to the following:
   1. What are the challenges and rewards of this profession?
   2. What is the most enjoyable thing you do professionally?

• What is the least enjoyable thing you do professionally?

1. Why/How did you choose this profession?
2. What is the most surprising thing about this profession to you ?

1. The paper should also provide research into a malady that is frequently treated within this setting. Topics to be included in this are:
   1. What is the malady?
   2. What is the relevant Anatomy and Physiology?

• What is the primary cause?

1. What are the common treatments?

1. Professional Development
   1. I would like you all to address how your experiences have helped you form a professional perspective on your career field
      1. What I am looking for here is through your experience what have you learned about:
         1. The field in general
         2. The positive things you have seen that you may wish to incorporate into your future practice
         3. The negative things that you have seen that you will try to avoid in your practice
         4. An overall sense of your philosophy regarding your future practice (small clinic, larger clinic, hospital setting, number of patients you see, any specialty area you would like to focus on)
      2. This does not have to be extensive, maybe just a paragraph or two at most.
   2. Students are also expected to provide documentation that verifies their experience hours to receive full credit. This documentation must be signed by a representative of the internship site and be on the Letterhead from that Facility.
   3. Papers and Presentations should have “good form” – Introductions Concluding Remarks, Transitions btw. slides.
   4. REMEMBER to PROPERLY SITE your REFERENCES both WITHIN the text and AT THE END of the paper!!!!!
2. Presentation
   1. The presentation should be approximately 15-25 minutes (see syllabus) in length and should be a direct reflection of the content of the paper.
   2. The presentation should be PowerPoint or other appropriate media
   3. The presentation must also include properly referenced in the presentation (on individual slides) and at the end of the presentation.
