Topic- The game of soccer

Audience analysis; Since soccer the most popular sport in the world, I think I will be able to keep attention of the audience. In order to do that, I will provide the most interesting fact in its history. Also tell an interesting story and maybe call out/ask an individual in the class.

Credibility; I have been playing soccer all my life, sometime as a captain and sometime as a coach for little league. I had played in many teams including school. To do this informative speech, I spent hours just to complete the outline. I have done many researches and learn about this topic about more than 5 hours.

  1. Introduction
  2. Attention Getter; Has anyone played soccer in here or actually plays soccer?
  3. Statement of credibility;

-Assistant coach for a little league of soccer team for local community children (+1 years)

-Captain for community soccer team and for church (+3 years).

-Play for many teams; Mexican, Chin, Burmese, schools, Karen, etc.

  1. Reason for audience to listen; Soccer is one of the most popular sports in many countries therefore it is important to be knowledgeable about what soccer really is.
  2. Thesis statement; It is important to know the most watched sport history, equipment, and rules to understand what soccer really is.

(Transition- Preview) Everything have a beginning. Let’s start with the history of soccer.

  1. Body:
  2. Main Idea 1: History of Soccer
  3. Supporting material 1: according to athleticscholarship, “more than 2,000 years ago to ancient China. Greece, Rome, and parts of Central America also claim to have started the sport”. The version soccer we know today, and more than 2000 year is different.
  4. Supporting material 2: England and Scotland structured version soccer including forbidding tripping opponents and touching the ball with hands.

  1. Supporting material 3: Before England structure a new version of soccer, the old form of soccer allows people to kick, punch, bit, etc. without any punishment.

(Transition): There were no set rules back in the day so the version of soccer that they played was violent. That was until later on that the rules of soccer that we know now come into play.

  1. Main Idea 2: The Rules
  2. Supporting 1: There are 17 basic rules when it comes to playing soccer. These rules are put in place to make soccer fun, safe, and fair.
  3. Supporting 2:

Law 1: Number of Players (up to 11 Players each side, minimum 7)

Law 2: The referee (what he says is law)

Law 3: The duration of the match (45-minute half)

Law 4: Start with Kick off

Law 5: Throw ins (side lines)

Law 6: Goal Kick or Corner Kick (explain where goal kicks and corner kicks are taken)

Law 7: Method of Scoring (when ball crosses line of goal)

Law 8: Fouls (explain what is considered to be fouls)

Law 9: Free kick (where the foul was given)

Law 10: The players equipment (there wearing the right equipment)

(Transition): Soccer is a very physical sport making it very easy for players to get hurt so making sure there wearing the right equipment is very important.

  1. Main Idea 3: The equipment required
  2. Supporting 1: to help to protect your legs it’s required for players to wear shin guards. Shinguards fit on the front of your leg with Velcro straps. Most Shinguards also include a section designed to support your ankle.
  3. Supporting 2: To help with safety you’re also required to wear a certain type of cleat. There are many different types of soccer cleats. There’s some that how longer metal studs for softer grass field and shorter plastic studs for harder ground.
  4. Supporting 3: Now you’re on a team you will also need to wear black shorts, a jersey, and socks.

(Transition to conclusion): Now you see why soccer is a very physical soccer the requires the right equipment to keep you safe.

  1. Conclusion:
  2. Thesis restated: Now you see that having a better understanding of the history of soccer, the rules, and the equipment required to play helps you have a better understanding of why soccer is one of the most watched sports in the world.
  3. Review: You can see how the history of soccer is very different than what we know now, how there are a lot of rules that go into play, and the equipment they were when they play.
  4. Conclusion: So the next time you watch soccer I hope you can understand more about it.
