Section | Description | Total points |
Introduction (20) |
I have explained how I came up with my proposal based on reflections on my knowledge/experiences. | 10 |
My paper is clearly written and organized. I conclude the introduction with a summary of the history to emphasize the need for the change I am proposing. | 10
Proposal Description (40) |
I explain my proposal idea and its relationship to the existing system–whether it is a modification of the existing one or a redesign. | 10 |
I set the scene in the context of history for the need for my proposal. | 10
I have indicated how my proposal addresses inequality–how it makes the New York City better and more fair. | 10
I have addressed the feasibility of my proposal by considering key criticisms my audience might have. | 10
Background & Theoretical Foundations (40) |
I have described social change and described how the change I chose represents a theory of social change. | 10 |
I have described two different ways my issue has been addressed elsewhere in the real world. | 10
I have related the real-world proposals to theories of social change and thoroughly compared them with my own proposal. | 10
I have cited my sources (at least two) in APA format in the text and in a Reference section at the end of the document. (see Purdue OWL for guide) | 10
Quantitative Data (40) |
I have integrated appropriate supporting quantitative facts throughout my proposal | 10 |
I present the data and graph in a clear way. In my analysis I make sound interpretations of both quantitative and qualitative data. | 10
I cite quantitative data to support my predictions of what change might look like as a result of my proposal. | 10
My analysis and/or reflection draws on findings from both my quantitative and qualitative data to make conclusions about the strengths and weaknesses of my proposal. | 10
Conclusion (10) |
I conclude by bringing together key ideas from my paper to make a convincing final argument for adopting my proposal. | 10 |
Presentations of Integrated Assignment Proposals (30 points)
The week of November 23rd you will have the option to select your own group.
The week of November 30th we will put remaining students in groups of three or four after we receive your drafts.
By 10 am on December 16th you must submit your video proposal presentation. In the video you need to:
**Choose the best proposal from your group and make a single presentation focusing on that proposal. You can each contribute a slide to the presentation.
The video should be between 5 and 10 minutes long, and following the guide below:
A model for sharing a visual of your proposal can be found here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/146HMoaSopRGakJBa96416F5e08JXQnnOCBo1DdsK14k/edit?usp=sharing
The following is the rubric you will be graded on:
Rubric Items | Total points |
I clearly described the social problem I am addressing and the solution that I am proposing. | 10 |
I demonstrated that I was prepared to defend my proposal. I provided evidence to back up my proposal and responded to others’ questions and critiques. I was visibly present and actively engaged in the video. | 10 |
I was convincing throughout my presentation, but especially in my closing statement. It was evident from the way I presented that I was making a genuine effort to convince my peers that my proposal should win. | 10 |
Culminating Course Experience (20 points)
For your culminating course experience, you must watch two other proposals from groups in your cohort. Write a paragraph on each video where you note what you think the group did well, and what you think they could improve on. Also compare their proposed change to the one from your group’s proposal – would that have similar outcomes? Different outcomes? Why?
The following is the rubric you will be graded on:
Rubric Items | Total points |
Reflect on video 1, highlighting strengths and weaknesses of the proposal and comparing/contrasting to your groups proposal | 10 |
Reflect on video 2, highlighting strengths and weaknesses of the proposal and comparing/contrasting to your groups proposal | 10 |
