Consider the following:

Rick and Morty moved to Australia in 2019. After spending two years in the country,

they decided to purchase a home of their own. They spent nearly 6 months house

hunting in the suburbs of Sydney before they finally managed to call a two-bedroom

unit their home. They found the experience inefficient, exhausting and time consuming.

Rick commented “I began to dread the weekends! Booking house viewings, showing

up, doing the tour in unfamiliar neighbourhoods…I thought to myself – it shouldn’t be

this hard! It should be more fun and enjoyable – it is a process of discovery after all!”

Learning about new Sydney suburbs was enjoyable initially, but then it slowly got to

them. There was a lot of information on the web: blogs, reddit banter, and TikTok

videos – all giving them multiple, often contrasting impressions about different suburbs.

They always felt at a loss, not knowing what information to trust. After settling into their

new home, and reflecting on their experience, they began to see an opportunity

emerge. Morty exclaimed, “It was one of those eureka moments! We thought, why not

create a platform where we bring together suburb experts and house hunters?” The

idea was that suburb experts using the platform could create guided walking tours of

neighbourhoods which house hunters could sign up for while house hunting.

Furthermore, they wanted to match the timing of the walking tours with house viewing

times (that are typically scheduled on weekends by real estate agents) to make the

process even more worthwhile. Rick and Morty also had grand monetisation plans –

they wanted to build the platform and eventually find a buyer in a major online Real

Estate platform (such as domain.com).
