Research Paper:      Controversial Topics in Drug Discovery  

1. Use 3 research topics below: All students will hand in a paper.
2. Total paper size: 4 pages! Papers that are too long may loses points! Papers too short will start at -10 points. (Due Dec. 3^rd)

Research Topics:

• Gardasil; the Ethical debate! (youth and sex, cancer??, male vs female, religion??)

• Legalization of Marijuana and Medical Marijuana. (is it right?, should it be legalized for everyones use, is it important in treatment??)

• LSD and Shrooms for the treatment of depression. (Is this real? Or is this just another way to try and get illicit drugs legalized)

Here is what’s needed to be included in research paper!

Must be written in MLA form!

1 inch margins, double-spaced. Heading should NOT BE double-spaced. Heading should have (in left corner), Name, Class, Professor, and date. Then Title should be centered.

Content:

You should have three topics….each are equivalent to 1/3 the paper’s grade.

The topics must be explained as why they are controversial and the arguments need to support the explaination.

You must have researched the Pros and Cons to the argument. You must have a minimum of 3 pros and 3 cons for each topic. These must be found in articles, court cases, news media reports, etc.

ALL resources MUST BE CITED!!

Once you have established the research to the pros/cons it is time for you to decide what side of the argument you believe in. Once you do, you must then have arguments that support your reasoning.

Write the paper ONE TOPIC AT A TIME! The topic should go start to finish before the next topic is written about. You need to organize how the paper will be written with what topics first and what decision you have made on that topic (for or against).

Format: 10 points

Organization: 20 points

Pros and cons content: 45 points

Your side of the topic + defenses/conclusions:  50 points

Refernces: 25 points
