FINAL ESSAY (20%)

Due Dec. 11, 2020

This project is the final stage of a research and writing process that incorporates your work on the Proposal, Annotated Bibliography and the Seminar Presentation. You MUST USE THE SAME TOPIC THAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN FOR YOUR PROPOSAL, ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY AND PRESENTATION.

You will be required to analyze and discuss in this research paper – IT SHOULD NOT JUST BE A PRESENTATION OF FACTS/EVIDENCE! YOU MUST FOLLOW THE TOULMIN ARGUMENT OR THE ROGERIAN ARGUMENT OR WRITE A CRITIQUE ESSAY.

Construct a paper that contains the following elements:

  • Introduction (purpose, scope, background)
  • Main discussion section: 4-6 paragraphs of development, examples, evidence, expert testimony (graphs, charts, tables if applicable)
  • Closing section – conclusion(s), restatement of findings, closing, suggestions for further research etc
  • APA or MLA style reference page that includes a minimum of 5 research sources – 3 of these must be academic (each source must be cited at least once in the paper)

* NOTE: See the rubric for more detail.

Your paper should be formatted according to APA or MLA guidelines. See below:

APA: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html

MLA:https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_formatting_and_style_guide.html

***The mark rubric should be copy and pasted to the back of your assignment. ***

* NOTE: No more than 30% of the assignment can be another’s referenced words or ideas – if a paper simply reassembles sources from elsewhere without the addition of your own thoughts, then this constitutes a breach of academic honesty/integrity and could potentially result in a mark of 0

The research question/purpose of the paper needs to be clarified.

Some background information is present but is insufficient.

The thesis statement is absent, unfocused, or unclear.

The student needs to work on developing a clearer thesis and stronger arguments; as well as seek better means to outline and preview a research paper.
