Equity and Social Justice

In 5-7 pages, use concepts and findings from course readings to define and explain what it means to you to teach for equity and social justice. Following this, explain how your understanding will shape your curriculum and pedagogy. What will be the roles for you and your students in your classroom? What will be the value of this kind of teaching for your students, given what you have learned about contemporary schooling and diverse student populations in this course? Finally, why do you believe it is important to teach for equity and social justice in a diverse, pluralist society like the United States? Please see the syllabus regarding the correct formatting of your paper and the rubric posted in iLearn that will be used to grade your paper. The expectation is that your paper will begin with a thesis statement that clearly articulates the argument of your paper, and that you will cite findings from course readings as evidence to support, illustrate, and explain the claims in your argument. Your paper should draw on readings assigned for weeks 8 through 10 (and could include readings from week 5 on critical multiculturalism) to help you define and explain what teaching for equity and social justice means to you, and readings from earlier weeks will be important resources in discussing the potential value of your approach for teaching diverse student populations. We would expect high quality work to cite evidence from at least 5-7 readings assigned for this course.
