ESSAY #3

Write a brief, well-organized essay of at least 1000 words (roughly 4 pages) on one of the following topics. These essays will require you to consider secondary sources (probably foundonline), or compare at least two works:

1.J. Alfred Prufrockis an extremely complex, troubled individual. Analyze his personality or diagnose him through a psychoanalytic or psychotherapeutic lensof your choosing.

2.Sometimesrelationships come to an end. Discuss how Anne Carson and Louise Glück explore this theme in “New Rule” and “The Garden,” respectively.

3.Compare how Karen Solie and Leslie Anderson comment on the affects technology has on individuals in “Life is a Carnival” and “I Understand Video Games Aren’t Real,” respectively.

4.Irving Layton’s “Berry Picking” and Mina Loy’s “Human Cylinders” are two examples of love poetry. However, they approach their subject matter in very different ways. Compare LaytontoLoy.

5.Discuss Pre-Raphaelite art as it relates to the imagery in “Goblin Market.” Or discuss howNASA/Hubble data informs Tracy K. Smith’s “The Universe: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.” Or how Futurist or Cubist art influences Mina Loy or Gertrude Stein.
