Comparison of formal techniques of Satire in A modest Proposal and The Rape of the Lock

Compare the formal techniques of only two satirical texts we have read, and discuss how the formal techniques, such as irony, use of sexual imagery, rhyme, etc., complicate the satire’s criticism and assessment of an issue, such as sexuality, imperialism, gender, etc. When writing this paper, it would be helpful for you to define what you mean by “satire”; thus, you would be required to cite a source that defines satire.

Since this is a research paper, your paper should make use of at least 2 secondary sources from your annotated bibliography. Your paper should seriously engage with their ideas. Note that you should not make their ideas overshadow your own ideas. Find a way to articulate your own distinctive voice in your work while at the same acknowledging how their ideas reinforce or differ from your ideas.

Furthermore, this is still an analytical paper, so you are expected to analyze the language of the literary text to prove your claims. Close readings form the argumentative substance of your paper, and I hope you rise to the challenge!
