COVID-19

Since the eruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, various activities have stopped indefinitely affecting livelihood and economy as well. Many nations worldwide are affected and are trying to minimize the spread in the best way possible and ensure that they are safe against this virus. This pandemic has made many nations improve its health sector to develop a vaccine that will eliminate the virus.

The most disturbing question that has come across the distribution of vaccines is about equality and equity. As if now, there is a mechanism in which nations contribute to funding the development of vaccines whereby if the vaccines are ready, each nation will get an equal share. It means that the less developed countries will be included, and they will have to contribute a voluntary donation if they can’t raise resources to fund vaccination. World Health Organization is one of the organizations pushing for equality in distributing vaccines for the initial stages. After the population has vaccinated twenty percent of its people, they will shift to the more impoverished countries. Other ethicists are developing ideas that aim to initialize equity, whereby the most affected land will be the priority compared to less dramatic. The expert suggests that vaccination should involve three categories. First, they should prioritize nations that would reduce higher Standard Expected Years of Life Lost (SEYLL) per dose. The second category would be the countries that reduce more poverty and SEYLL. The third category would be to those nations with a high transmission rate (Samuel, 2020). This group aims at three fundamental values; prioritizing the disadvantaged, equal moral concern, and benefiting people and reducing harm.

In developing a vaccine, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has shown a lot of disappointment as it has made some decisions influenced by politicians. It has led to the approval of vaccines that have many side effects on humans and later revoke them. It has raised suspicions that the vaccine is not well tested before its authorized, and also the development of the immunization is carried out faster than it should be. The black doctors have come up with a panel that will check how clinical trials are being carried out to ensure that the black community is on the light. They will evaluate how the trial’s participation is to occur through the breakdown of the American population. The population does not have trust in the government, and politics influence vaccine production as the decision-making (Boodman, 2020). Everyone is waiting for the vaccine’s approval and hopes that the scientist will develop the vaccine based on science.

A worrying question of what will happen when the vaccination is available for use, yet not enough for everyone is a significant concern. To ensure that all the citizens have received the vaccination, American citizens need to continue wearing masks and maintaining social distance. It’s a good step, as the availability of the vaccine can’t change the situation overnight. Availability of the vaccine will ensure that the country will eliminate the virus but not entirely as some people may never want to get the vaccination. The vaccination will take a long time to get to all the population (Health, 2020). Thus, being protective and wearing a mask and adhering to health directives will ensure that the country is safe from another virus wave.

COVID-19 is a virus that has brought many disadvantages to the whole world, and the vaccination is urgently needed to ensure that the world is safe. Also, in developing a vaccine, each person has the right to get the vaccination, which means that every country needs the vaccine. When the vaccination is available, it will not cater to all the population at once. One needs to protect themselves after the immunization to prevent being affected again until the whole community gets vaccinated.
