Integrate into your essay answers to these questions:

1. In chapter 8 of the textbook, we learned the concept of cleavage or structural division, developed by Lipset and Rokkan. Define the concept of structural division, and analyze if and how the structural division rural-urban in Florida contributes to explain the distribution of votes in the state (look at the Area type information and at the table with results per county). Then look at the country map and analyze if and how it applies country-wide.

2. Chapter 8 indicates the key voting blocs for each majority party in the United States. Describe these blocs per party, according to the textbook. Now, look at Florida results: is this voting information aligned with the key voting blocs of each of the major political parties described in chapter 8? Analyze at least four categories: gender, race, religion, age.

3. As part of Chapter 8, we introduced the concept of political parties’ agendas. Define the concept and explain what are the agendas that each party seeks to advance (according to the textbook). Now look at the issues that matter most for people when deciding their vote. Is their alignment between parties’ agendas and people vote? Look also at data by gender, race, sexual orientation: what hypothesis you can elaborate on in terms of demographic vote and partisan agendas?
