Framework assignment on Saskatchewan ELF Play and Exploration

Visual Representation of an Early Learning Framework – 25%

Each pair (may also be completed individually) will sign up for a global or provincial curriculum framework from those listed below.  You will create a visual representation that will demonstrate the important ideas about the framework to others. Ensure you review all requirements below and review the rubric to ensure all requirements of the assignment are met.

Requirements:

Present the subject matter so that your classmates learn about the key elements of the framework

  1. Introduce the framework.  Present the framework’s structure:
  • vision;
  • guiding principles
  • theoretical foundations (e.g., developmental & social constructivism);
  • explanation of pedagogy;
  • image of the child;
  • role of an educator;
  • family and community involvement;
  • assessment/evaluation methods.

  1. Consider the characteristics of the two broad types of educational traditions:
    • the social pedagogical tradition
    • the pre-primary tradition and
    • if an Early Learning Framework is situated in continuum/ transition, provide concrete examples/ citations from the framework that support your point of view.
  1. Provide a brief comparison to Ontario’s pedagogical framework How Does Learning Happen?.
  • Identify 2 similarities and 2 differences and provide evidence to support each.
  1. Describe any additional interesting information you discover (optional).

Tips for your Visual Representation:

  • Since you are creating this for an online audience, be creative! You can create a video that shows your work, use Prezi, PowerPoint with voice-overs, or a creative representation of your choice.
  • Think about what your audience needs to know and how you can share it in an interesting way. Make sure your audience has a good understanding of the early learning framework by the end of your presentation.
  • Use the information and ideas from your textbook, related articles, and online research to demonstrate your theoretical understanding of early learning frameworks.

Participation & Submission:

You will display your visual representation on the Discussion Board for others to view it & comment.

In addition, you are required to submit a representation to the dropbox to be graded.

Groups will sign up for one of the frameworks.  There should not be repetition in the choice of an Early Learning Framework for presentation. As soon as you decide which ELF you want to explore, go on SLATE and enroll into the group. Make sure that those students who you would like to work with are all in agreement and enrolled.

Although there are many other frameworks, these have been chosen for their suitability for the course content & assignment purposes.
