Reflection Synthesis Essay

For this final assignment, you are going to engage in reflection and synthesis of your own. You will synthesize ideas from three works (from the readings folder inthis module),and reflect onyour own work from this semester, todevelop what is often referred to as a “theory of writing.” A “theory” can be a system of explanation, a particular way of thinking that helps explain a phenomenon in the world.In this finalessay, you should reflect on your development as a reader and a writer and explain how your learning has led you to a particular theory of writing. In developing your theory of writing you should consider the following questions:

1. What do you now know about writing that you didn’t know before?

2. How mightyou approach writing assignments or tasks in the future based on this knowledge?

3. How have your reflections or the reflections of your peers ( in the journals and discussions) influenced how you write, or how you think about writing?

4. What have you learned fromyour experiences in this class(both in the process of writing, in the discussions, and in the feedback you’ve receivedfrom me) that will help you in future writing assignments?

5. What writing conventions have you learnedthat you didn’t know before?

6. How has your revision process changed during the course of the class?

These are just some of the questions that you might think aboutin your process of reflection. They may lead to other questions that you want to discuss. Your essay should include a thesis that makes a claim about what you understand the act of writing to be, and your essay should be organized in such a way that a reader can follow your thinking and reasoning from paragraph to paragraph and within each paragraph.It is imperative that you have a single claim that encompasses all of your readings, and it is also imperative that your claim be something more complex than “reading is important to writers.” You should support your claims about writing with specific and concrete references to your own work (reflections, assignments, class notes, peer review exercises, etc.)as well astextual evidence from each of the three readings. Quote yourself directly when appropriate, and quote your chosen reading when it makes sense to do so.Your job is to synthesize your own words about writing and someone else’s words about writing to generate an understanding of how writing works and how you yourself write. You will need to quote your sources using MLA in-text citations and provide an MLA works cited page for your essay.During your revision process, be sure to check the list of technical requirements, so that you don’t needlessly lose points on font, formatting, etc..To submit this assignment,go to the Assignment link in the course navigation menu.
