The purpose of this assignment is to get you to see the relevance of sociologicalconceptsto the stories that make up our daily news.

INSTRUCTIONS

Scan web-based news sourcesfor stories that you feel relate to theconcepts that we are discussing in the course. There is a list of concepts to draw from on the next page. Once you have threearticles, each one illustrating a different concept, you are ready to start. Your articles mustcome from a reputable, North Americannews source (e.g., The Globe and Mail, The London Free Press, CBC News) andbe dated January2020or later. Make sure that not all threeof your concepts are linked with the same topic area(e.g., culture, social interaction & social structure, groups& organizations).Your goal in this assignment is, in part, to demonstrate the breadth of your understanding of the sociologicaltopicswe are covering.For each article, and limiting yourself to one page per article, discuss how the article illustrates the concept in question. Though several concepts could conceivably apply to any given article, you are using only one concept per article. Try to select the concept that fits best. Use that concept as the title for the page. Centre and underline the concept at the top of your page. Then proceed with your discussion. As for your discussion, though you will want to provide a brief summary of your article and a clear definition for the concept you believe it illustrates, be careful not to spend all your timedoing simplythis. The focus of your discussion should be on the connections between the story and the concept. Also, be clear in explaining exactly where you see the connections.PRESENTATIONThe assignment should be presented in the form of a report. It should have a proper title page (be sure to include your name and student number), and divisions clearly separating the discussion of each article. Include a bibliography for thenews storiesyou analyzed. If you quote directlyor paraphrase informationfrom the lectures or the textbook, be sure to also cite your sourcesin the bibliography. No introduction is required. The report must be typed, double-spaced, and use 1” margins. Pay particular attention to your writing style, spelling, and grammarsincethis will be taken intoconsideration in the marking.EVALUATIONThe assignments will be marked according to the following criteria: Are the connections between the concept and the article clear?
