Disability Policy/Issue Paper (40% for paper; 5% for presentation; 35% for the paper):

You should choose a disability issue and do a review of literature on this issue. The paper should be 7 pages and include 5 citations. These citations can include policy reports, journal articles, and media reports. The analysis should integrate three disability theories and concepts discussed in the syllabus.

Your paper should study a disability issue, policy, or program, and analyze it based on key theoretical, conceptual, and political frameworks discussed over the course of the semester. Assignment must follow APA 2020 guidelines. The paper should include the following sections: introduction, scale and scope of the problem, barriers and challenges, current approaches and responses to the problem, and recommendations.

For your final paper, you have two options: a research paper based on literature and archival resources or a paper based on interviews and analysis. The paper must be 7-10 pages excluding the bibliography and abstract/cover page. The paper is worth 35% of the grade and the presentation is worth 5%. Due Date: December 15, 2020

This assignment should include:

– 2-3 interviews (The analysis should integrate three disability theories and concepts discussed in the syllabus.)

– 4-5 citations

– 7-10 double-spaced pages long (excluding bibliography and cover page)

Assignment Outline:

Introduction of the disability policy/service/program or issue to be explored

– What are you planning to study/investigate—what is the research question/questions?

– Overview of the issue

Literature and significance

– Discussion of existing literature, knowledge and background on the topic

Methods

– Interviews, observation, self-analysis or narrative, online research.

– You are required to interview 2-3 people, and if you are writing about yourself, then you need to incorporate one interview along with your narrative.

Findings and analysis

– Relate those findings to the concepts: Theories and Models

– Disability oppression and marginalization, social model, medical model, normalcy, stigma, culture, etc.

Recommendations

– Societal, organizational, and/or policy change
