Online Final Exam Instructions

For the final exam, students need to submit a powerpoint presentation (with voice narration).

The Question

Each student will be assigned to discuss the impacts of information technology and/or social media on the quality of life in a particular region. The assignment of regions is posted on Canvas, and the regions are: Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, North America, and South America. You can focus on one country within the region, or on the region as a whole, depending on what materials are available.

In your powerpoint, you will need to answer the following question:

How has information technology and/or social media affected the quality of life in your country/region?

Use the Quality of Life schema proposed by Zinam to describe how technology has affected the quality of life in your country/region. For the presentation, you should analyze the impacts of information technology and/or social media in your country using at least three aspects of Quality of Life (as described by Zinam). You need to be specific in your discussion of the technology, the specific aspects of QOL, and the effects on your specific country. You do not need to focus on the quality of life for women, but could choose to do so.

You can also choose to focus on how the quality of life affects the development of information technology in your assigned region. For example: how have the cultural, social and political systems and customs of a country/region affected the development of ICT in that country or region?

Research

You will need to do some research on the question you will answer. You are required to find at least one research article on the impacts of information technology or social media in your assigned region/country, and are encouraged to find additional articles on the country/region you are assigned to work on from the WWW; however, articles from corporate, educational, or personal websites are not acceptable unless they have been published in a reliable newspaper, journal, or magazine.

Articles you use must be published in or after 2014.

Here are a couple of suggestions on how to find a research article:

(1) Use the Science Direct database or Academic Search Complete database through the SJSU library or any other sources in the library page of our course and search for information technology and quality of life (or impacts) in your region.

(2) Use google search and find the pdf files of research articles. For example, you can do a google search for “information technology and quality of life in Africa PDF.” Look at the pdf articles that come up and see whether they are research articles appropriate for this assignment.

The articles you use should be published in or after 2014.

Deliverable

You must create a Powerpoint presentation with narration in your own voice. Your presentation must be around five minutes in length. You must submit your Powerpoint presentation to Canvas (under Final Exam Instructions). There is no rewrite for the final exam. If you do not upload your powerpoint, you will not receive credit for this assignment. Instruction on how to record your voice is posted on Canvas.

It is fine if you submit a video with voice recorded. The video must show your slides clearly and have clear voice narration. You must make sure that the video can be played in a Mac computer, or simply submit it as a youtube video. You should also submit your ppt along with the video.

If you use Google slides, you must make sure that I do NOT need permission in order to listen to the audio. Google slides often have permission issues for playing audio if you do not set it up right (you might need to set up for audio in each single slide). Make sure that anyone with the link can play the audio in all slides.
