Personal Statements

1. To what college or university do you wish to transfer and why? How will The Honors College help you get there?

After two years in The Honors College I would like to be transferred to Yale University because this is one of the top institutions in the country in regards to biology, meaning that this institution will prepare me and teach me to not only be successful in the field of study, but to be one of the best in this area, something that I am aiming for. In order to fulfil my objective, The Honors College is a remarkable aide to me because it is a college program that set me on a path to academic excellence and impulse me throughout a rigorous academic environment to improve on every aspect of my life, furthermore The Honors College will help me get to Yale University by helping me never lose track of my objective because of social or economic struggles that I can face with.

2. What have you done to make your school or community a better place?

Since I was a kid I learned that with enough effort everyone can make the world a better place and during my years in high school I always worked hard to try to make my community better and out of all the thing that I have done, that goes from volunteering on events for children in need and helping people to not lose track of their studies because of personal issues, to talking to legislators at the Florida State Capitol, there is one thing that excels, which are the efforts I made to advocate for DACA, a program that currently protects nearly 700,000 young immigrants, during the oral arguments at the Supreme Court, in which me and my group went to Washington, D.C., and Orlando to give workshops and sessions concerning immigration to show support and try to inform and help people with no immigration status in our community.

3. Please share anything else you would like for us to know about you. (E.g. Share a compelling life experience, obstacle explaining academic performance, etc.)

Something important to know about me is that over the course of my life, one of my biggest challenges was when I came to the United States, one and a half years ago, because I did not know how to properly speak in English, I had to work, take care of my sister, do the house chores and many other things to help my family, and this use to leave me with only few hours a day to study but from past problems I learned that giving up is never an option and I still manage to have good grades, and even take AP classes like AP chemistry and others, but this obstacle, even though I managed to know how to overcome it, stop me from having time to push myself further by having more challenging classes and having more service hours something that I know I am capable of.
