This week, you will submit your research presentation based on your chosen sociological topic, which was selected in Week 2. Be sure to include the following sections in the presentation:
A historical background surrounding the topic
An analysis of relevant and applicable statistics
A description and analysis of the functionalist and conflict perspectives within the context of the topic
A description and analysis of other sociological perspectives within the context of the topic, where appropriate
An articulation of the individual’s arguments
A discussion of the future implications of the topic for American society
A position on the subject that considers a Christian perspective (i.e., What does the Bible or the Christian tradition say about this subject?)
As well, make sure you have used at least three to four resources, including scholarly journal articles, periodicals, videos, and appropriate websites. The final presentation should be created as a PowerPoint presentation.
NOTE: If you create the presentation with a file type of .ppt or .pptx, you must save the file as a PDF before you will be able to submit it. You can do so by opening your presentation, clicking on “File,” clicking on “Save as,” and selecting PDF in the “Save as” drop-down box.

Research Presentation
Overview. Each member of the class will select a topic based on a predefined list within the Research Presentation Topics survey. Individuals will independently research the topic and prepare a summary PowerPoint (or comparable) presentation.
Sections. The presentation will include the following sections:
A historical background surrounding the topic
An analysis of relevant and applicable statistics
A description and analysis of the functionalist and conflict perspectives within the context of the topic
A description and analysis of other sociological perspectives within the context of the topic, where appropriate
An articulation of the individual’s arguments
A discussion of the future implications of the topic for American society
A position on the subject that considers a Christian perspective (i.e., What does the Bible or the Christian tradition say about this subject?)
Research. This project requires a thorough analysis of the topic through the collection of research and data from at least three to four resources, including scholarly journal articles, periodicals, videos, and appropriate websites. NOTE: The textbook is not a satisfactory reference.
Visual Presentation. Next, the student will prepare and submit a presentation to reflect their research on the topic. Contents must be carefully cited using APA or Turabian format. The final presentation will be submitted to MyFire by the deadline with the evaluation based on the rubric in the course information folder. NOTE: The length of the PowerPoint is not prescribed for this course. It is expected that you will include all of the required sections, regardless of the number of slides.
Deadlines. This project has several deadlines as to ensure the timely and successful completion of the project.
Topic Selection. By the end of Week 2, the student will indicate his or her selection of the presentation topic via MyFire. This is a graded assessment (25 points), and if not completed, the instructor will make the topic assignment.
Status Update on the Project. By the end of Week 4, the student will send a notice to the instructor via MyFire, indicating the status of his or her project. Specific items to communicate will include the following: (a) references collected, (b) major observations, and (c) anticipated timeline for completion. Similar to the topic selection, this deadline will result in a graded assessment (25 points).
Presentation Submission. By the end of Week 7, the student will submit the final presentation as an attachment in the MyFire course. (See the Week 7 folder for instruction.) NOTE: The evaluation rubric will award the student based on a scale of zero to 150 points.”
