1. Sexual assault and sexual violence affected 0.7% Australian women (65,400) and 1.4% of persons aged between 18 and 24 years of age (30,900) in 2016-2017 according to the ABS. Critically examine what has been done and what more could be done to reduce sexual assaults and sexual violence in Australia.

Journal articles must be from reputable, academic journals that undertake peer-review (i.e. do not use your textbook, books, government reports, media releases, newspaper articles, research reports or policy papers).
• You should choose articles that you think will help you better understand the topic as well as help formulate the direction that you would like your essay to take (e.g. if you choose the topic of green criminology you may have decided that you want to focus on e-waste and thus it might be beneficial to start looking at those articles now).
• You do not need to be/become an expert in your chosen topic- we will focus on these topics more as the semester goes on.
• This task is to get you thinking like a criminologist and researcher.
• The focus of this task is on you demonstrating critical thinking skills.

An annotated bibliography starts with a full reference to the work in question. For example:
Wilmott, C, Fraser, E & Lammes, S 2018, ‘I am he. I am he. Siri rules: work and play with the Apple Watch’, European Journal of Cultural Studies, vol. 21, no. 1, pp. 78-95.

Then you include the following details (NOT dot-pointed but written out in complete sentences):
• The background/credibility of the author(s)- if you can’t find this out then that’s fine but most will have their affiliation on the journal article
• Main argument/idea of the article- what is the argument that the author/s are making? What is driving this argument?
• The research methods- how are they going about doing this research?
• The conclusions made by the author(s)- what is the outcome of the research?
• The reliability of the study- do you think it is credible? Why or why not?
• Strengths and limitations of the study- think of what made this study reliable? What made it unreliable? What might have been a better option for the research study?
• The relevance or usefulness of the article for your research- will you use it and if yes how do you think you will use it? If not then why not?

Reminder: You should be working on the rest of your research and your essay as the semester progresses- do not just wait for feedback on this task. Keep working and when you receive feedback incorporate that into the rest of your work.
