In this activity you will be creating an imaginary travel tour for the setting of either Lord of the Flies or Macbeth.
Your tour can be a walking tour of one area or you may travel between dierent locations in the novel/play you h chosen. There must be 10 stops on your tour. These can be:
Locations of where signicant events occurred Locations of importance to a character Locations where signicant objects, symbols, or characters from the novel/play are located A location that where there is something that represents a theme in the novel/story
For example, stops on a Macbeth tour might include: The Bloody Dagger Witches’ Cavern Birnam Wood
Part 1: Travel Brochure (5% of Final Mark) Create a travel brochure for your tour. Decide who your audience will be (i.e. teenagers, adults, etc.) so you can g brochure and video promotion to that particular group.

A travel brochure is a small booklet or pamphlet containing promotional material and product information to pro travel destination.

What needs t o be in my tr av el br ochur e?
Your brochure must include: A description of the 10 stops on the tour including: Name of the stop on the tour Short description of what tourists will see at that stop A quote from the novel/play representing that stop (including a reference) An explanation of the signicance of that stop (why did you include it on the tour, why was that item/event/location important to the plot, theme development, symbols, etc.) A map showing where each stop is located on the tour Minimum of 500 words, including quotations from the play. A minimum of ten images helping the reader visualize what the tour will be like You may also want to include such factors as weather, what to wear, local currency, transportation, medical conditions, shopping and, of course, the cost of the tour.
Part 2: Tour Promotion Video (4% of Final Mark)
Prepare a 5 minute promotional video of your tour. The tour guide in the video will be one of the main characters novel/play. In your video, you need to take on the role of that character and present the material in the video as t character.
In your video, include:
An introduction of yourself as one of the characters from the novel/play Use of costumes, props and visual aids to assist in the impact of your video An introduction of your tour (where is it, how long is it, how will you travel between locations, who is the tou suitable for, price, what to bring etc.) A description of each of the stops on the tour including: Name of the stop What the tourists will nd at the stop that is signicant A quote from the novel/play which relates to the stop Why the stop is signicant to the novel/play (see instructions in Part A)
Make sure you are speaking clearly, at an appropriate volume and pace, and include appropriate intonation, pois gestures and eye contact. See “Speaking Strategies” handout for further information.
Part C: Assessment As Learning Exercise (1% of Final Mark) Answer the following questions using complete sentences.
1. Reect on your skills as a speaker. What are your strengths and areas for improvement? What strategies do y most helpful in speaking?
2. Reect on your skills in creating media. What are your areas of strength and areas for improvement? What st do you nd most helpful creating media texts?
