Explain what culturally competent care means to you.

The focus of this labor and delivery report is to develop an awareness of the values, customs, and practices of different cultures during the intrapartum process of the reproductive period. Within every culture, each person develops his or her own beliefs and value systems. Knowledge about these beliefs and value systems increases the nurse’s cultural sensitivity to the patient’s needs, thereby increasing the likelihood that high-quality nursing care will be provided.

INSTRUCTIONS: Select two cultures with whom you could care for in the labor and delivery unit. Compare and contrast these cultures and describe how you would facilitate care during the labor and delivery process. Describe what you might observe and/or discuss including the values, customs, and practices that she and her significant others would bring to the birthing experience.
Answer the following questions very specifically and in detail:
