Assume that you are an addiction professional who is working with a client. You will first conduct an assessment to collect important information about her condition so that you can then create a treatment plan.

In this week’s assignment, you will learn how to create a treatment plan that uses the Biopsychosocial Model of addiction.

Assignment: Treatment Plan

In this 3–4-page paper, assume that you are an addiction professional who is working with a client. You will first conduct an assessment to collect important information about her condition so that you can then create a treatment plan. By the time that you have completed the assignment, you will have used the Biopsychosocial model of addiction, the DSM-5 (university library), and the ASAM placement criteria (p.403 of your text).

Find the DSM-5 in the University Library.

Listen to Cheyenne’s Scenario (transcript provided here) and take notes to assist you in the creation of the treatment plan.

Listen carefully to the audio recording of a client discussing her concerns. It is recommended that you listen a few times. Typically, clients do not explain all of their concerns in a logical order, so you will need the information gathered in your notes. It is recommended that you listen for:

  • Biological factors: symptoms (complaints of physical or psychological discomfort)
  • Psychological factors: presenting problem (why is she coming to treatment, not always
because a client wants treatment), cognitive problems, or emotional problems
  • Social factors: relationship problems, strength of social support system, and
    employment status

Complete the Treatment Plan template using your notes, the DSM-5, and ASAM placement criteria. The goals and interventions should be appropriate to the Biopsychosocial Model of addiction. The Treatment Plan should consist of:

  • A summary of the client’s reported biological, psychological, and social problems
  • At least three specific SMART treatment goals that relate directly to the scenario
  • Proposed interventions for each goal
  • The given diagnosis is Alcohol Use Disorder, 303.90 [F10.20]. Using the DSM, provide support as to whether the given diagnosis is correct. If it is not, explain why and what may be missing or is needed to make the correct diagnosis.
  • ASAM placement recommendation with support
