1. We have talked a lot about the importance of distinguishing cultural norms from personal characteristics. The goal is to always “be yourself” but also figure out which of your behaviors need to change to accomplish your objectives. What are two things you hold from your cultural background that you think you would need to become flexible in to be more effective in cross-cultural situations?

2. Imagine you’re in a business setting and negotiating a contract. What is your personal style: formal or informal, direct or indirect? Based on your style, how might you need to think about changing your behavior in a culture that was the opposite? Give specific examples.
