For the second writing assignment, you will critically analyze Lower Ed by Tressie McMillan Cottom and connect it to what is going on in society today. More specifically, you will do the following:

Think about and discuss how the book fits into the current social landscape. What larger issue(s) does it speak to? How does it connect to current events?
Find supplementary materials that deal with issue(s) you think are related to the Cottom book. These materials should be in the form of articles from newspapers and magazines. They can be from online or print sources. You should ultimately settle on 2-3 articles.
You may also include content from lectures and discussions (we will treat this content as shared, public knowledge so you don’t need to cite it).
And, of course, try your best to think sociologically!

Your book reviews should be 3-4 typed, double-spaced pages. Be sure to cite sources and include a page of references. Use any citation style you’d like, just be consistent.
