This essay allows you to craft your own argument about hot button issues. People write and speak persuasively to each other often, whether it’s roommates debating about who should do the dishes, candidates trying to convince you to vote for them in an election, or an attempt to convince your employer that you should oversee something. This essay helps you build sound skills in writing persuasively.

You will choose one topic that is important to you and craft a persuasive essay in which you take a stance and argue for your side. You must use three scholarly sources.

The following process may be useful:

· Choose one issue to focus your argument around your choice;
· Locate three additional scholarly sources;
· Individually write a 1600-2000 word persuasive essay that takes a position on an issue and produce evidence to back up your argument;
o The introduction should introduce readers to the topic being addressed. You also must include a thesis statement, which includes taking a stance and sticking to it. The thesis should include both your position and the main claims you are using to back up your position.
o The body should make claims of your own about the issue and include information from the handouts, other scholarly sources, and/or your own experiences to support those claims. It should be clear what position you are taking throughout.
o The conclusion should make a statement about what readers should do or how they should act in relation to the issue based on your argument.
· Make sure all information is cited correctly in text and that a Works Cited page is included.
