Description

This is NOT an essay. I just need you to answer some questions about a case study it just needs to be around 150-200 words. Basically just read the case study and answer the questions 1.    1. In the Introduction, the authors state that previous studies have looked at the influence of selective logging on species diversity, yet have arrived at different conclusions. What’s the reason for this lack of consensus, and how do the authors design their study to address this? 2.

 2. What is the explicit hypothesis that the authors are testing in the study and what, if any, assumptions do they make with this hypothesis? Do they have specific (directional) predictions that stem from their hypothesis? 3.

3. Create a visual depiction of the sampling design used to collect data in this study. Take a picture and include it in your post. What were the steps that the authors took between collecting data in the field to analyzing it statistically? 4.

 4. Referencing Fig. 2 on p. 922, describe in your own words what a rarefaction curve is and how they are used. What can one conclude about how complete the sampling is for logged sites vs. unlogged sites? What can one conclude about the number of species detected between the two forest types at n=500 individuals, n=2000 individuals, and n=3500 individuals? 5.

5. At the bottom of p. 924, the authors discuss the role of disturbance and maximum diversity. Construct a figure that shows the expected relationship between maximum species diversity (y-axis) and the frequency of disturbance (x-axis) to graphically illustrate the point that the authors are making. Take a picture and include it with your post. Is there a specific name for this relationship?
