Celebrity Psychological Disorder

Description

In this weeks activity you will be writing a reflection paper about a familiar with in the media (celebrity) and using their behavior, diagnose them with a psychological disorder from chapter.  You will learn how to write a reflection paper using basic APA guidelines.  In chapter fifteen you read about the different theoretical perspectives of Psychological Disorders as well as their importance.  In this assignment you will have to present your celebrity and diagnose their disorder using examples of their problem behaviors and mental processes. Also, suggest a form of therapy that would help them improve their life.

Prompt:

According to your text, a “psychological disorder is a condition characterized by abnormal thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that cause distress or significant impairment in functioning”.  Think about a person you are familiar with in the media (celebrity) and using their behavior, diagnose them with a psychological disorder from chapter 15.  In a two page essay, using APA guidelines, present your celebrity and diagnose their disorder using examples of their problem behaviors and mental processes. Also, suggest a form of therapy that would help them improve their life.

APA: 

Most of you are not familiar with APA format. Although we will not cover all the requirements for an APA paper there are a few things that I would like you to focus on such as (1 inch margins, 12 point Times New Roman font, double-spacing everything, left alignment, use name as header in the top- right corner , nothing in bold, no contractions, no informal language, references list, correct grammar and spelling).  Please see the rubric provided for more details on how you will be graded.

What you will do:

In this unit you learned about the different theoretical perspectives of Psychological Disorders as well as their importance.  You will have to present your celebrity and diagnose their disorder using examples of their problem behaviors and mental processes. Also, suggest a form of therapy that would help them improve their life.  In this thought paper there are some main points that you will have to focus on.

• Make sure that your paper is in APA format and is 2 pages minimum(must not exceed 2 1/2 pages).
• Make sure that your paper has a Title, Introduction paragraph, at least 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion.
• There will be additional APA requirements that you will be graded on.  See you rubric below.
• You will also have to talk about:
  • Present your celebrity, it can be any celebrity but they must not have already been formally diagnosed with a psychological disorder. You may use anyone from a cartoon, movie or book.  Do not simply go online and look up celebrities with psychological disorders.
  • Diagnose their disorder using examples of their problem behaviors and mental processes.
  • Also, suggest a form of therapy that would help them improve their life.
• Due date: I will make the format for your thought paper available the first week of start of the unit on Monday May 10th at 8 am. Your thought paper will be due and submitted no later than Friday, May, 28th at 11:59 pm.
• The turn around time to receive a grade for your assignment will be 2 weeks. At which point I will provide individual feedback to your assignment submissions.
