against horses used for carriage rides in Central Park

Description

Once you choose an issue for which you want to advocate, decide on the artifact (the “thing”) you want to create. Make use of skills or creative outlets you enjoy, and think about the concept of “everyday activism”. The goal is to create something that advocates for your chosen animal welfare cause. It can be personal and related to your own experiences, or more general. You will also answer reflection questions to accompany your artifact (see p. 3). Some examples of artifacts you might create are below:

Written

  • Letter (to a politician, community group, CEO of a company, etc.)

  • Poem

  • Personal reflection (in any written form)

  • Menu or recipe

The following steps will help you successfully complete your assignment:

    1. Complete the Week 13 Desmos activity. The activity will walk you through a few steps to begin planning your assignment (and is worth points toward your final grade like always).

    2. Create your artifact, using the brainstorming you did in the Week 13 Desmos to help.

    3. Complete the reflection (see questions below) to help contextualize your artifact. You should answer each question in at least 2-3 sentences each. They can be numbered, or written in a longer narrative. Whatever works for you.

      1. What message, idea, and/or cause are you advocating through this artifact?

      2. Why is this message, idea, or cause important to you?

      3. How or why did you choose this medium/artifact for your project? How does it showcase skills or a kind of creative expression that is unique to you?

      4. What is one strength of your artifact?

      5. What is one challenge or limitation of your artifact?

      6. What did you like about this project? What is something you found difficult about completing this project?

      7. How has our Capstone class made you rethink, or think more deeply about, your relationship with animals? Provide at least one example to support what you are saying.
