Description

As scientists, our goal is to describe situations based on evidence and then we try and figure out why the facts are indeed so. Social scientists then make predictions about where we may be headed with or without interventions. The narrative given to the facts, is when we find disagreement, all too often. Still, if we agree on which facts we are examining, all kinds of issues can be explored. Discussion one centers on the facts of baby names.

The Social Security Administration keeps popular baby name data. Looking through the pages and googling information regarding names, the student will identify some key facts about naming practices. The student will then hypothesize why the facts are indeed facts.  Follow the link to popular baby names as recorded by the Social Security Administration and look around the website. Popular Baby Names https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/.
