After reading about the different career options students have pursued discussed in the chapter and exploring the We are Family Science website, think about your future career goal. Research your specific career area to learn more about it. The Occupational Outlook Handbook can help you find information on the requisite skills and education, the duties and training, and the pay and projected job outlook for many of family-focused occupations.

Then, develop a 2-3 page paper on how an HDFS education can help you excel in your chosen field. Consider the following:

• Does your future career goal as a Marriage Counselor require a Master’s or Doctorate degree?
• What characteristics and skills are required?
• What aspects of the career excite you the most?
• Which concern you the most?
• Did this research change your ideas about working with families? How so?
