Strategic Development Term Paper or Presentation (30% of your grade)
The information in your paper will be held confidential but you may change the name of the
organization, individuals, etc. for security reasons. The length of the paper should be
a minimum of 10 pages (not counting the cover sheet, reference page or appendix), double
spaced, typed on 8 ½ x 11 paper, 12 pt. font, with a minimum of ten scholarly references (not
including any internal organizational documents such as the annual report). References and
quotations must be properly documented using APA publication standards. In addition, the paper
should include a Cover Sheet (see Assignment Cover Sheet in Appendix) and a one
page Executive Summary. The body of the paper should be 10 pages and not include the cover,
executive summary, or references or appendixes. No diagrams should be embedded in the paper.
Your Project Paper should be prepared as if you have been asked by your organization’s decision
makers to prepare an internal consulting report to be presented to a management team with your
recommendation(s). The paper will include a summary Strategic-Management Assessment based
on this strategy course and inherent strategic knowledge gained. A publicly traded company on
the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is strongly suggested for analysis because the
information is readily available in the annual report and other documents. The strategic analysis
should include a Leadership Profile of the CEO and his or her management style, a SWOT, Key
Success Factors of the industry, Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles, Strategic Posture,
etc. Incorporate the following sections into your paper: Applied Paper Structure
1. Table of Contents with detailed subheadings (not part of the ten pages)
2. Executive summary: Summary of your analysis (not part of the ten pages).
3. Introduction (company products, leadership, structure, industry)
4. Strategic issue(s) that the company is facing today.
5. A brief literature review of competitive strategy and strategic decision-making
methods by the leaders of the organization.
6. Analysis and evaluation of the strategic issue(s) and sub-issue(s).
7. Discussion
8. Conclusions
9. References (not part of the ten pages)
10. Appendices (should not be part of the ten-page write up).
