In preparation for Paper #1, compare and contrast the two versions of the story of Rama and Sita: The Ramayanaand Sita Sings the Blues. See Course Schedule for reading/viewing details. Don’t focus on superficial differences (number of scenes, editing of the scenes, etc.) but look at the key issues of men’s and women’s roles in relation to each other and in terms of society. 

The paper should have a thesis/introduction, a body with quotes and examples from the works (and quotes from a secondary source), and a conclusion. The text should fill four double-spaced pages. In addition, the paper should have a separate Works Cited list with at least three references: the two primary sources (The Ramayanaand Sita Sings the Blues), and one secondary source (a scholarly or critical work found by research). You should work with your Group to find good sources. The Works Cited sources should be listed in MLA style.
