Speech for personal artifact

In presenting the artifact and its significance, be sure to address the following topics:

• Provide a detailed explanation of what the artifact is and why it is significant to you. This personal artifact was hand crafted by my late grandfather the year I was born (1984) I was given this after his dealth
• Indicate the denotative and connotative meanings that you associate with the artifact. In other words, what is the artifact in terms of literal meaning, and what additional associations do you make for it?  See below
• Indicate and explain at least one value or belief you hold that is reflected in the meanings of the artifact. Clearly state the value(s) or belief(s) and clearly explain how the value(s) or belief(s) is/are reflected in the meanings that you associate with the artifact.

Specific Purpose: At the end of my artifact speech, the audience will be able to understand why the statue I have chosen has a great significance to me. I will also include the statue’s denotative and connotative meaning. I will also include one belief that is a reflection of the statue.

Thesis Statement: The grumpy old man statue that I have chosen for my artifact speech was handcrafted by my late grandfather. It shows that while he was very artistic he had a sense of humor with his art.

1. The Grumpy old statue connotes a figure of a grumpy old man who is either deep in thought or is picking his nose. This form of art that my grandfather created is humorous yet very detailed.
2. I believe that my grandfather took great pride in his artwork. It’s really the only thing I have to remember him by as he passed away while I was very young. I cherish it and hope to one day pass it down to my son.
