Here are some guidelines to help you with the Research Paper. Remember that this essay has a word limitation 750-1000 words.

• Remember that your topic needs to have a direct impact on your life, school, or local community.
• Your introduction needs to provide background information on the problem that exists in your life, school or local community.
• You have two structures to use: The One Solution Essay or The Three Solution Essay.
  • For the One Solution Essay, your thesis statement identifies a problem and provides one solution to that problem. Then you need to identify the three reasons why that one solution will work.
  • For the Three Solution Essay, your thesis statement identifies a problem and provides three different solutions that will help solve that problem.
• In either case, the reasons or solutions need to be written as items in a series (one, two, and three), in parallel construction (they need to look alike and sound alike – be written the same grammatical construction), and as succinctly as possible (much like an outline).
• Your thesis statement may not be more than two sentences.
• Your thesis statement must be the last sentence(s) of your introductory paragraph.
• Your body paragraphs must follow the order that you establish in your thesis statement.
• If you list your reasons/solutions in the order of importance, then you have a built-in transition to begin your final body paragraph that discusses most important or significant or interesting or unusual reason/solution.
