Here is the F-451 Topic List:

Fahrenheit 451 Research Paper Topics1. Some novels advocate changes in social or political attitudes or in traditions. What are the specific attitudes and traditions that Ray Bradbury wishes to modify in his novel? Analyze the techniques the author uses to influence the reader’s views, and explain how he urges the audience to make these changes. 2. In some works of literature, a character who appears briefly has a significant presence. Write a paper in which you show how such a character functions in this novel. What are the changes caused by the character? Why does the character disappear? You may wish to discuss how the character affects action, theme, or the development of other characters.3. Guy Montag undergoes a character transformation as the novel progresses. Compare the protagonist the reader meets at the beginning of Fahrenheit 451 to the character Montag becomes at the close of the story. Use specific examples and proof from the text to support your ideas. Be sure to include quotes to support your ideas.4. Examine Ray Bradbury’s possible motivations in writing Fahrenheit 451. What is he urging the public to do? What are his themes? How does he get his message across to readers? In your discussion, be sure to use direct references and quotes/lines from the text to illustrate your points.5. In many works of literature, a physical journey—the literal movement from one place to another—plays a central role. Explain how Montag’s journey is an important element in the novel. How is his journey important, and what happens as a result? How does this journey add to the meaning of the work as a whole? (See Joseph Campbell’s work on Hero’s journey…)6. Ray Bradbury wrote this novel during the height of the Cold War in the 1950’s. The main themes in the novel acted as a warning to society at the time that it was written. Write about how the novel can still be used as a warning to people in America today. What is the novel warning against, and how are the warnings included in the text?7. In Fahrenheit 451, censorship causes a loss of societal growth, individual thought and personal happiness. Individuals lose their ability to live rich lives, have meaningful relationships, and to think for themselves. What is the cost to people living in their society? What are the negative arguments for censorship according to the author? Examine and use specific information from the text (along with secondary sources) to support your assertions.8. References. Discuss the vast use of mythological, historical, or Biblical references in Fahrenheit 451. Why are so many references used, and what is their significance? What do all of these references mean in the context of the novel? What is the underlying message of the author when he uses such references?
