As you should recall from lectures and readings, the narrative is a personal story that the writer thinks readers will find interesting; this means the writing should convey an experience that’s not only personal but also significant to the reader.  I have listed several topics below.  If you wish to convey a very meaningful experience not captured in one of these topics, then please contact me BEFORE writing for approval.  Again, any topics not listed here require my approval before submitting.

A few reminders

*the narrative is the only academic essay that allows students to use first person (me, my, us, we, our).  Do not use these terms in any other writing assignment.

*you cannot use second person (you).

*all composition and grammar rules discussed in lectures (classroom and virtual) apply.

*use the narrative essay grid to see specific points that will determine the grade on this essay.

*the traditional elements of a traditional essay are very important, so review.

*edit, revise, edit, and revise; never submit your first draft, please.

 

Use one of these topics to convey a "meaningful" experience. In this case, "meaningful" is an experience that changed your view of life, changed your life, taught a life-long lesson, or a similarly important event.
