You will be writing an essay or a case analysis of the Google Case

You are the newly hired Chief Diversity Officer and your first task is to analyze the state ofdiversity at Google and to develop a set of recommendations based on the problems you find.

The assignment is to analyze Google’s Diversity Problems, NOT James Damore or Free Speech. Please do not write about Free Speech!

Other than course concepts, texts, and articles, you do not need any other sources (i.e. do not

use Google’s current D&I work or stats, focus exclusively on what is in the case).

Assignment should be 6 pages, double spaced.

What are the problems?*• Identify the problems• Support your problems/substantiate your claim with data(remember: don’t reference figures, put the actual data in thebody of your paper!)• Connect what you are seeing in the data to the course concepts• Explain why these are problems, what are the implications (*make your argument).

What is Google currently doing to try to rectify these problems?• What strategies or initiatives do they have in place? How does whatthey are doing connect to the problems you’ve identified?• Do you think their efforts are paying off? Why or why not?• Substantiate with data—i.e. increases or decreases in data over time canindicate if something is working/not working.

What is contributing to this problem?• The majority of this information can be found in the Case Study• Link what is in the Case Study to course concepts• You can pull from class materials (i.e. articles), but you do not need toprovide background on the articles, just use theterms/concepts/arguments• Think about what is happening within Google, but also more broadly (i.e.three levels of gendering… individual, interactions, societal).

What do you recommend that Google does to fix these problems?• Why and how do you think your recommendation will solve the problems?• There are some examples in the Case Study, however you should also pullideas from class discussions and articles.• Your solutions should directly connect to the problems that you’veidentified. It should be obvious how your recommendations are going tosolve the problems.
