However, watching the presentation has allowed me to expand upon this definition.Dr. Shante’ Moore-Austin says that professionalism to educators is different than in other professions.  It means your style, demeanor, how you get along with others, and how you dress.  Educators should always remember that the first impression is usually the lasting impression.  She said that it is important to remember to always be professional when interacting with co-workers, emailing, and greeting students.  Students look up to us and watch how we carry ourselves.  We are their role models and must behave in a Christ-like manner.Dr. Michelle Goodwin says that it is critical that educators are professional.   We train the next generation of professionals, so, we are their living example. Being professional can open or close doors to our future because people notice how we behave. We reflect Christ and in question should ask ourselves, “What would Christ do?” A few indicators of professionalism is to always do what you say you are going to do, make deadlines, be on time, and be trustworthy.  Furthermore, educators should always show self-control even when our days do not run as smoothly as we hoped they would.  Students see us, they look up to us.  So, dressing modest and being flexible in difficult situations convey important messages to them.Justin Silvey conveys a similar message.  He discusses professional relationships and stresses positive interactions with co-workers and administration.  Justin says that you cannot dress too highly or smile too much.  He says that first impressions are important.  In addition, teachers should make eye contact and act like they are interested in being at school.  Last, it is important for educators to be confident in the competence.Professionalism is important.  Not only are students always watching us but so our others in the community.  So, for teachers our professionalism must extend beyond the school walls and become a part of who we are. Hello everyone! My name is xxxx and I currently live in Knoxville, Tennessee. I am a fourth grade teacher and absolutely love it! I am pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education-Teaching and Learning-Elementary Education. I received my bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University and decided to further my education with Liberty. Aside from teaching, I love snowboarding in the winter and waterskiing in the summer. I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music, and singing (especially praise and worship.) I have taught fourth grade for five years now and could not be any happier! My students bring a smile to my face every day. It is interesting to me to see how the students transform in my classroom throughout the year. They really do soak up information like a sponge! My life verse is Psalm 116:1-2 “I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.”After watching the presentation on professionalism and working in the education field, I believe having and keeping a strong professional presence at work and outside of work is crucial. As a Christian, being professional goes right along with working as if you are working for the Lord. Professionalism refers to how you interact, dress, and handle situations. Educators are to be role models who have positive attitudes and act Christ-like when handling situations and interacting with people. Dr. Michelle Goodwin said that educators are training the next set of professionals in the future, so it is crucial that we act professional and set a positive example. I absolutely agree with that statement. Eyes are continuously on you and you are being looked up to by many students. The way we look, act, and speak need to also be positive and professional, while showing care and compassion to others. I want to be a professional that displays a Christ-like attitude in all situations and allows the Lord to work through me. I pray every morning before work that God uses me, and that I allow His Holy Spirit to show through me to others. I may be the only Christian that people come in contact with so I want to uphold positive, Christ-like characteristics at work and outside of work.
