University of Memphis Art Show Review

Project 1: Art Show Review(100 points)The intention of this assignment is to see art in a space meant to display art, in person, and up close.

Part 1 For this assignment, you are instructed to go to an art exhibition at a museum or gallery near you. Most colleges and universities may have art exhibitions on campus. Be sure to say the name of the exhibition, where it was held, and which artists were featured.

Part 2 Please answer the following questions:  Does the show have a theme? What kind of work does it include? Look at the whole show and give your overall impression of the art space (museum, gallery, etc.), and also of the exhibition you are viewing for this assignment. Did you like the exhibition space? Why or why not? What was your favorite art work in the whole space that you viewed? Which pieces did you feel were particularly meaningful?

Part 3 Using Chapter 5, Evaluating Art, in your textbook as your guide, this rest of the assignment should follow the formal method of analysis, using the terms of the visual elements and principles of design you learned in Modules 1 and 2 (Chapters 3 and 4 in the textbook) to describe any two artworks in the space. Be sure to include both artists’ names, the titles of the two artworks, and medium/media used in each work.
