The Council of Trent, Jesuits as response to Reformation
Even if one sees Luther's Reformation a problematic because it divided the Church across centuries, Ch. 21 in Bokenkotter offers a "brighter side" (p. 239). In this assignment you'll consider: What is the 'brighter side' Ch. 21 is talking about?
In a 2 to 3-page paper:
Summarize some problems the Church was facing at the time of the Reformation and right afterward (p 241).
Name and briefly explain reforms of the Mass that happened at the Council of Trent (p. 242-244).
Describe the impact of St. Ignatius Loyola in bringing the Church beyond the Reformation and why the book presents the Jesuits as a "bright" outcome after Luther's reforms (p. 247-249).
Answer each of these points to show that you understand the above material and can explain it clearly in writing.
You may use sources beyond the textbook and class videos, but be sure to cite all sources you use, including Bokenkotter. Use APA style and format and refer to the Rubric for assignments posted in Canvas under "Rubrics."
