Intellectual critique of a qualitative research study
Using the “Guidelines for Identifying the Steps of the Qualitative Research Process” (Chapter 18 of your textbook, pg. 445), select a qualitative research study from your literature review or on a topic of your choice and provide an analysis of the study according to the guidelines in your text. Each step should be clearly labeled as headings and you need to support your claims with solid references. Include at least four (4) scholarly citations.
The steps of the qualitative research process are: Targeting the Problem, Setting, Data Collection, Analysis and Interpretation. In the study selected by me, the researchers posed a question: “How do men perceive health-related gender inequality?” The researchers set up their research by stating that the main purpose of their study was to examine “the ways in which men experience, interpret and make sense of health-related gendered inequalities in relation to reproductive health seeking behaviours” (pg. 3). Next they contacted people in a defined community and asked these people about topics on a daily basis over an eight-month period by using audio recording technology. They searched for various sources such as newspapers and interviews with those involved in healthcare institutions. Lastly they analyzed their data through performing statistical tests or running other types of correlations with each other then formulating themes from study results found via coding them into dimensions such as social capital and sexual activity.
Research has shown that spiritual or emotional factors can be affected by social and political factors. This study will explore how the cultural backdrop has influenced students to choose their majors, what types of anxiety they experience in order to accommodate to these cultures and how these students manage their stress levels. The research found that university students from the United Kingdom and North America tend to choose their majors based on social status and personality traits rather than academic skills. However, when asked about the type of anxiety they experience in order to accommodate to these cultures, the majority of respondents answered that it is not stressful at all because they feel secure and accepted.
This research study was conducted in order to identify the experiences of mothers who have dependent children. The study found that all of the participants reported highly positive experiences with respect to their children. The participants also had a high level of satisfaction and pride in their work as mothers. The participants had excellent relationships with their peers at work which allowed them to gain support and encouragement; they were able to find mentors and role models which aided them in finding employment opportunities; they felt that they were able to earn a respectable salary that supports a comfortable lifestyle for their families. At work they felt supported by employers who gave them additional training or new responsibilities when needed; they received excellent benefits from employers’ health insurance programs; they were able to live comfortably because most enjoyed advanced positions where they received increased pay on top of generous benefits plans . In summary, this qualitative research study shows that many mothers have positive experiences when caring for dependents”In a professional tone
The issue of smoking and teenage pregnancy, which has been studied over more than two decades, is an interesting one. It is interesting because findings from this subject have been analyzed in a number of different ways by different researchers, so this can help to draw conclusions about the effectiveness of prevention programs aimed at reducing rates of teenage pregnancy. The key question here is: Is there any evidence suggesting that increasing the knowledge about the health consequences of smoking among teenagers leads to fewer cases of teenage pregnancy? The study used for this chapter involved interviewing older students who still smoked (but who had previously quit). In other words, it investigated what effect their past experience with smoking had on their current behavior with respect to teen pregnancy. They found that there was no significant difference between the proportion who indicated that they would use birth control if they were currently sexually active as opposed to those who said they hadn’t had sex yet and might start in the future.”
