In this module you will observe a job and create a draft Job Analysis Report. Your first step is to choose one of the jobs listed below, profiled in Season One of the Discovery Channel show, "Dirty Jobs."
- Beer Brewer
- Oyster Farmer
- Honey Harvester
After you’ve chosen one of the three jobs listed below, you’ll watch a video clip about the job from the show, "Dirty Jobs." You can access the video clip from Amazon Prime video for $1.99/episode. You might also check out this site to see if you can find the episodes for free (although if it doesn’t work, please just use Amazon): https://soapgate.org/ , then click on "soap2day.to."
You’ll only watch a section of the episode specific to the job you’ve chosen. Episode information and timestamps are provided so that you know where to start and stop watching (please note that the timestamps provided below are based on the Amazon Prime videos…the DVD versions have slightly different time stamps). You do not need to watch the entire episode.

You may find it helpful to turn on the "closed captions" as you watch the video segment. As you watch, make observations of important tasks and activities that you see being performed by the job holder, as well as the knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs) and other personal characteristics you think the individual is using to complete the job tasks. You should also make note of physical requirements and working conditions, as well as tools and equipment used.
After you watch the video clip for your chosen job, you should have a list of 5-10 tasks and 5-10 knowledges, skills, and/or abilities. Task statements should be action-oriented (probably beginning with a verb) and allow the reader to visualize the work being performed at the particular organization depicted in the video. Include descriptive words, such as any tools or equipment used. Use your notes and observations to create your Job Analysis Report using this template this template – Alternative Formats
